Gilbreath Voted Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - USC's Briana Gilbreath was named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the opening week of the season, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. The junior guard led the Women of Troy to an upset of No. 22 Gonzaga to open the 2010-11 campaign.
Briana Gilbreath (Katy, Texas) scored 21 points and 10 rebounds in the 79-73 victory over the Bulldogs, avenging a 70-58 setback from last season. Gilbreath scored 15 of her 21 points in the second half to propel the Trojans in the come-from-behind victory, after trailing 37-30 at the break. She also tallied a key bucket with 33 seconds remaining in the game to seal the win. Gilbreath went 7-for-14 from the floor, 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Her 21 points were one off her career best.
It is Gilbreath's first-career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and USC's 39th all-time, third-most in Conference history.
The Trojans square off against fifth-ranked Duke tonight, traveling to Durham, N.C. Last season, USC lost by just six points at Cameron Indoor.
