ASU's Simon Named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA STATE senior guard Dymond Simon was named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 20-16, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Dymond Simon (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the Sun Devils to an upset of then-No. 16/18 DePaul last week for its biggest win of the season to-date. Simon, who missed all of last season because of a knee injury suffered at the end of the 2008-09 campaign, scored a career-high tying 24 points, grabbed five boards and also dished out a career-best seven assists in the 79-66 win. Simon was 8-for-14 (.571) from the floor and 7-for-9 (.778) from the charity stripe.
Simon was also a part of the defensive effort that limited the Blue Demons to just 66 points, nearly 15 points below DePaul's scoring average of 80.8 points per game. After the win, Simon has averaged 16.8 ppg in the team's five-game winning streak.
It is the first time since Feb. 2, 2009 when Simon was named Pac-10 Player of the Week that a Sun Devil has earned the honor. It is her third-career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and the 34th all-time selection for ASU.
