Scouting The Wildcats: Criner, Reed

Juron Criner

So. WR - Arizona

Ht. 6'4" Wt. 210

40-YD 4.45

Rare size and speed for the position. Makes big plays. Excellent hands and is an outstanding route runner. Has explosive deep speed. Wants the ball with game on the line.

Few weaknesses to his game. Needs to be a little more aggressive at maintaining blocks downfield.

One of the top college players in the country. Might not get the national fanfare at this time but the NFL scouts surely can't miss him when they put on the Arizona video. He is big, fast and strong and makes dominant plays in every game. Reminds me of a young Torry Holt as a route runner. Understands coverages and is extremely quick at the break. Difficult to cover one on one. Outstanding deep separation speed and burst. Very strong hands to pluck the ball in traffic. His 6'4 frame gives him a major size advantage against most DB's he goes up against. Very confident young man who excels in crunch time.

Brooks Reed

Sr. DE - Arizona

Ht. 6'3" Wt. 260

40-YD 4.75

High effort performer with versatility. Very good initial quickness as a pass rusher off the edge. Has a non stop motor. Good functional strength on the line of scrimmage at the point of attack. Sheds blockers quickly. Very good vision and instincts to find the ball and make plays. Has the foot quickness and agility to drop in to zone coverage.

Will struggle some as a pass rusher against big OT's. Quicker than he is fast in pursuit. Lacks raw athletic skill in M/M coverage. Lacks overall size and strength to play full time as a down DE.

Outstanding college football player who will need to convert to the outside linebacker position at the next level. He is a high energy player who plays the game with passion. Very good quickness with the ability to diagnose plays fast. Does have the ability to get off the ball fast and upfield to the QB. Has explosive traits as a pass rusher. Gets locked on to long armed OT's too often as his size/strength ratio is small for a true DE at the NFL level. Would project to OLB in a 3-4 scheme where he possesses the ability to drop in to zone coverage as well as come off the edge on passing downs. Guys like this make a team and contribute early on special teams while working in to the defensive rotation. Plays the game with a winner's mentality.
