Stanford's Pedersen Named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD senior forward Kayla Pedersen was named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 17-23, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Kayla Pedersen (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) helped the Cardinal take sole possession of first place in the Pac-10 with a pair of convincing wins over tough competition in then-No. 8 UCLA and USC. Pedersen paced the squad with an average of 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds over the two wins. She shot 63.2 (12-for-19) from the field and 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from 3-point range.
On Thursday against the Bruins in a battle for first place in the Conference, Pedersen posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds while going 6-for-9 from the field in Stanford's 64-38 win. The victory marked the Cardinal's third win over a top-10 foe this season.
On Sunday against USC, Pedersen went 6-for-10 from the field, including going 3-for-4 from behind the arc on the way to 16 points, five rebounds and three assists in Stanford's 95-51 victory.
It is Pedersen's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor of the season and the fourth of her career. It is also Stanford's 78th all-time selection and second this year.
The Cardinal take to the road this week, traveling to face Oregon on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 6:00 p.m. PT. The game will be televised on FSN/CSNBA. The squad will then visit Oregon State for a 12:00 p.m. PT bout against the Beavers.
