Burks Named Big 12 Player Of The Week
IRVING, Texas - University of Colorado sophomore Alec Burks was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for games of February 21-27 in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference. It is the second honor this year for Burks, who was named back on January 10.
Burks averaged 23.5 points, nine rebounds, and three assists per game helping the CU men's basketball team to a 2-0 week with wins over No. 5 Texas (91-89) and at Texas Tech (71-68). The 2-0 week is the first unbeaten week for the Buffaloes since beginning the conference season with three consecutive victories.
Burks scored 24 of his game-high 33 points in the second half rallying the Buffs from a 22-point deficit against the Longhorns. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for his third double-double on the season and handed-out four assists.
In the win at Texas Tech, the sophomore guard from Grandview, Mo. scored 14 points with eight rebounds.
In Saturday's upset victory over Texas, Burks led a CU second half surge scoring 11 of the team's next 14 points pulling the Buffs to 58-55 with 12:55 remaining after trailing 58-43. CU scored a season-best 58 points in the second half on 58.1 percent shooting.
Burks has recorded 24 career outings with 20 points or more, fifth among active Big 12 players.
