Buffs Ready For Saturday Scrimmage

Apr 2, 2011

BOULDER - The University of Colorado football team is prepped and ready for the second of three spring scrimmages, set for Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on the lower practice fields.  The scrimmage is open to the public.

"I think we're ready," CU coach Jon Embree said. "It was a good day today.  We're in the spiders, it was a good mental day, we were together fora  little bit but it was a good mental day for us."

Embree said the scrimmage will be a normal scrimmages in which the first team offense will face the first and second team defense, the first team defense will face the first and second team offense and both second team's will face each other, as well.

"We'll also go from the minus-30 a few times and mix in some red zone, we want some red zone work," Embree said. "We'll have kicks intersperced as far as field goals, I'll just do that randomly.  I don't know how many plays, we're beat up on one side of the ball, the defensive line, but we have to go."

The session is the 11th of 15 spring practices.  After Saturday, the Buffs will practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of next week leading up to the 2011 Spring Game, set for April 9 at Folsom Field with a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Prior to the Spring Game, there will be a fan zone and garage sale set up in Balch Fieldhouse, beginning at 4 p.m.  There will also be an alumni game starting at 4:30 p.m.  Former CU coaches Bill McCartney and Gary Barnett will coach the two teams, to be captained by their former quarterbacks Charles S. Johnson and Joel Klatt.
