Soccer Wraps up Spring Play at Regis
DENVER - The University of Colorado women's soccer team finished its spring season 4-3-4 after traveling to Regis University Saturday to play the final three matches before starting competition in the Pac-12 Conference next fall.
The Buffaloes played Fort Lewis College to a 1-1 tie in their first game of the day. Annie Stuller scored the first goal of the game off an assist from fellow freshman Hayley Hughes to give CU a 1-0 lead, but the Skyhawks evened the score 1-1 where the it remained for the rest of the 50 minute match.
Midfielders Kate Russell and Amy Barczuk scored CU's two goals in the second contest, and the Buffalo defense shut out the Cowgirls giving the CU its only win of the day.
Senior Kym Lowry stepped in to help out her team one final time before graduating in May after goalkeeper Annie Brunner broke her finger. The Buffaloes were unable to score in their third match against host Regis, but the Rangers experienced the same difficulties and the final buzzer sounded with neither team scoring.
"We achieved our goal of not losing, and we played fairly decent," head coach Bill Hempen said. "It was a pretty good way to go out. There are a lot of things to think about in the offseason and lots to work on. It was definitely worthwhile for us to play all of these spring games."
