Oregon's Peterson and Rumfelt Named Pac-10 Softball Players of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- OREGON freshman catcher Alexa Peterson and teammate senior pitcher Brittany Rumfelt have been named Pac-10 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for May 9-15 Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

In Oregon's history-making weekend against returning national champion and then- No. 12 UCLA, Peterson was the only Duck to hit safely in all three games. For the series, the Salem, Ore., native paced the team in batting (.714), hits (5) and on-base percentage (.750), and stood second in slugging (.714) and third in total bases (5). Helping the team to its best-ever finish in the eight-team Pac-10 league, she owns the team's longest current hitting streak (6), and  leads the squad in conference action in batting (.356), hits (21) and multi-hit games (6). Overall on the season, the team's Defensive MVP ranks third on the team in batting (.327), on-base percentage (.423) and game-winning RBI (4), fourth in hits (36-tied) and fifth in slugging (.509)

Helping UO cement its first season series advantage vs. returning national champion UCLA for the first time in 16 years, Rumfelt made a pair of appearances for the Ducks. The Lakeport, Calif., native made her first career start vs. the Bruins on the team's pressure-filled Senior Day, where the left-hander pitched the first six innings in the 5-0, seven-inning, and helped Oregon become the second team this year to blank the Bruins. For the weekend, she paced the team in ERA (1.83), wins (1-tied), strikeout-walk ratio (1.83:1) and opposing batting average (.148).

These honors mark the first of both Peterson's and Rumfelt's careers. Oregon now has 35 weekly softball honors all-time.

The Ducks are set to make their second-straight NCAA appearance and 13th regional appearance all-time. The squad will travel to State College, Pa. and will face Albany on Friday, May 20 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
