Benz Named Bank of the West POW
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. —CALIFORNIA forward Katie Benz has been named Bank of the West Pac-12 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 29-Sept. 5, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.
The senior co-captain was named the MVP of the Cal Invitational after scoring four goals—including a hat trick—in Berkeley over the weekend. On Friday, Benz scored the first goal of the game and had an assist in the 5-1 win over Kent State.
On Sunday, the Napa, Calif., native buried Denver with back-to-back goals early in the second half. She completed her hat trick in the 85th minute to solidify Cal's 4-2 win over the Pioneers.
Benz has scored a Conference-leading eight goals in six games, averaging 1.33 goals per game.
This is Benz's first Conference Player of the Week honor and the 22nd all-time selection for California.
The Bears play at Long Beach State this Friday at 4:30 p.m. PT.
