The historic first Pac-12 Conference game kicks off Saturday at the Los Angeles Coliseum where USC will host league-newcomer Utah at 4:30 p.m. PT (Versus).

Cutting their teeth early . . . 69 true freshmen saw action last week for Pac-12 teams, as well as 86 redshirt freshmen. That's a total of 155 student-athletes (12.9 per team) who made their debuts. Here's the breakdown: Arizona 10 Fr./9 RFr., Arizona State 3/9, California 10/1, Colorado 6/5, Oregon 5/3, Oregon State 8/8, Stanford 4/12, UCLA 1/7, USC 3/6, Utah 4/8, Washington 6/8, Washington State 9/10.

Several Pac-12 quarterbacks were impressive in opening weekend victories. Arizona's Nick Foles 34-42, 417 yds, 5 TD/0 INT; USC's Matt Barkley 34-45, 304 yds, 3 TD/0 INT. Arizona State's Brock Osweiler 19-26, 262 yds, 2 TD/1 INT, Stanford's Andrew Luck 17-26, 171 yds 2 TD/0 INT. WSU's Marshall Lobbestael 14-19, 230 yds, 2 TD/0 INT. That's a combined 118-158 (74.7%), 1,384 yds, 14 TD/1 INT.

Thursday, Sept. 8

Wildcat Notes: Senior QB Nick Foles completed 34-of-42 pass attempts (80.1%) for 412 yards - the most of any quarterback in the nation for the week - and a career-best five touchdowns in last week's win over Northern Arizona. . . Five different players hauled in at least five passes each, including senior WR Juron Criner who caught six passes for 151 yards and a touchdown. . . The game with Oklahoma State is the first of four straight games against ranked foes (Stanford, Oregon and USC follow).

Friday, Sept. 9

Sun Devil Notes: Junior WR Jamal Miles returned his second career kickoff for a touchdown against UC Davis, bringing it back 98 yards. It was the second consecutive game in Sun Devil Stadium Miles has returned a kick for a score, as he had a 99-yarder in last season's home finale against UCLA. Miles joins teammate Omar Bolden, Terry Battle and Whizzer White as the only Sun Devils in school history with two career kickoff return touchdowns. . . The Sun Devils produced 517 total yards in a balanced attack (300 passing/217 rushing) in the season-opening win over UC Davis. . . Junior QB Brock Osweiler checks in at six foot eight inches tall, making him the tallest quarterback in the FBS.

Beaver Notes: A school-record eight true freshmen played in the season-opener. That's not just a single-game record, but rather a single-season record, surpassing the seven who played during the 1997 season, head coach Mike Riley's first year in Corvallis. True freshmen Brandin Cooks (WR) and Malcolm Agnew (RB) started on Saturday. They are the first true freshmen in Oregon State history to start a season opener at either position. . . Agnew made perhaps the best debut in the history of the Oregon State program in the Beavers' 2011 opener against Sacramento State. The diminutive back from St. Louis, Mo., rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns. Agnew's 223 yards rushing is the ninth-best single-game total in Oregon State history.

Golden Bear Notes: A matchup with new conference foe Colorado. However, this game is a return game and will not count in the Pac-12 standings. . . Senior WR Marvin Jones caught two touchdown passes for the second multi-touchdown game of his career (UCLA, 2009). Jones finished the game with five catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns. It was Jones' fifth career 100-yard game. Sophomore WR Keenan Allen hauled in a career-high tying eight receptions for 112 yards, his second 100-yard game. The last time two Cal receivers had 100 yards receiving was in 2006 when DeSean Jackson and Lavelle Hawkins accomplished the same feat on Sept. 19, 2006.

Buffalo Notes: Senior QB Tyler Hansen became the 11th player to throw for 3,000 yards in a CU career, finishing with 223 yards against Hawai'i to give him 3,045; he passed Gale Weidner 1959-61, 3,033) into 10th all-time on the overall list. . . Senior TB Rodney Stewart rushed for 52 yards on 18 carries, and added 98 receiving yards on four catches for 150 all-purpose yards.

Duck Notes: With 54 yards against LSU, junior RB LaMichael James became UO's all-time leading rusher with 3,331 yards, surpassing Derek Loville (3,296 from 1986-89). . . James had a career-high six receptions and a team-high 61 receiving yards. . . JR QB Darron Thomas set career marks with 31 completions and 54 attempts. He has at least one TD pass in all 14 career starts (and 14 consecutive appearances).

Husky Notes: With 125 yards rushing against Eastern Washington, Junior TB Chris Polk now has 12 career 100-yard rushing games, tied for third-most in UW history (Napoleon Kaufman had 17; Greg Lewis had 15; Polk is tied with Robin Earl). . . The UW's current five-game winning streak is the sixth-longest (tied) in the nation. Only Auburn (16), Stanford (9), Nevada & Ohio State (7) and Oklahoma (6) have longer current win streaks.

Cardinal Notes: The nine consecutive wins is the longest since 1951 when the team started off 9-0. It is the fourth-longest streak in school-history. . . The 59-yard kickoff return for senior WR Chris Owusu to start the second half, was the seventh KOR for 50 yards or more in his career. . . Junior QB Andrew Luck found seven different receivers during his 17-of-26 performance for 171 yards and two TDs. He also rushed for one TD, his sixth career rushing touchdown. His two TD passes were the 46th and 47th of his career, moving him into sole possession of fourth place. He now has 6,084 yards in his career, passing Guy Benjamin for sixth all-time. Next up on the TD charts: No. 3 Jim Plunkett (52 TD passes from 1968 to 1970).

Cougar Notes: Rough start for QB Jeff Tuel who woke up Saturday morning with a virus, then suffered a fractured clavicle in his third play of the season opening win over Idaho State. . . Senior QB Marshall Lobbestael stepped in and connected on 14 of 19 pass attempts for 230 yards and a pair of TDs. . . WSU had 11 different players catch passes as the team racked up 301 passing yards to go with 289 rushing yards. The 590 yards in total offense is its highest total since putting up 638 in the win over Portland State (9/20/08). . . The 60 points were the most since beating Southwestern Louisiana 77-7 (11/8/97).

Ute Notes: Junior RB John White, freshman safety Eric Rowe and junior kicker Coleman Petersen made sterling debuts against Montana State. White, a JC transfer making his first NCAA appearance, had the best debut for a Ute running back since 1998, when Mike Anderson rushed for 150 yards against Utah State. White netted 150 yards on 19 carries (7.9 average) and scored two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving). Rowe logged nine tackles. Peterson, whose past experience was on the scout teams, made field goals of 37 and 44 yards and three PATs. . . Since 2003, Utah has compiled an 80-22 overall record (78%) for an average of nearly 10 wins a season

Trojan Notes: Junior QB Matt Barkley completed 34 passes against Minnesota to eclipse Todd Marinovich's USC record of 33 (set in 1989). Barkley had a 75.6% completion percentage (on 45 attempts) while passing for 304 yards with 3 TDs and no interceptions. He hit 16 passes in a row at one point. He was 18-of-20 in the first half for 163 yards. . . OG Jeremy Galten became the first JC transfer to go directly from junior college to USC and start a season opener at offensive guard since Derrick Deese in 1990 versus Syracuse and the first JC transfer to start immediately on the offensive line since Taitusi Lutui did so at tackle all of 2004. . . Redshirt freshman TB D.J. Morgan became the first USC freshman to start a season opener at tailback since C.J. Gable in 2006.

Bruin Notes: Junior RB Johnathan Franklin had his eighth career 100-yard game which ties him for 11th on that UCLA list -- he rushed for 128 yards on 16 carries and scored a touchdown. . . His 1,821 career rushing yards moves him to 18th on that Bruin list. . . Senior WR Taylor Embree moved up to No. 10 on the all-time school receptions list, now with 122 catches, after his five grabs for 60 yards at Houston. . . Junior QB Richard Brehaut's 351 yards of total offense ranks T-20th on single game school list (career-best 87 rushing and 264 passing).
