Sep 10, 2011

BRONX, N.Y. -  The University of Colorado volleyball team suffered another tough loss at the Rose Hill Classic, this time to the University of Albany (22-25, 21-25, 18-25) on Saturday afternoon. The Buffs are now 3-3 overall while the Great Danes improved to 2-6.

Kerra Schroeder led CU with 10 kills. Nikki Lindow added nine kills in the effort while hitting a team-high .500. Kelsey English also recorded eight kills for the Buffs.  As a team CU recorded 36 kills and hit .145. Albany hit .231 with 44 kills.

Defensively Megan Beckwith had 19 digs for the Buffs and Schroeder added 11. Colorado out-dug the Great Danes 53-44.

The first set was close and had eight ties and five lead changes. Albany won the set 25-22, using a five-point run to take a 19-17 lead which the Great Danes wouldn't let go of. The Buffs were able to fight off one set point at 22-24, but UA closed the set with a kill.

Albany won the second set 25-21. It was also close, but there were only two ties and just one lead change. The Buffs got within a point of the Great Danes at 13-14 and then UA put together three straight points to go back up by four points at 17-13. The deficit would be too much for the Buffs despite a great effort to get back in the set. The Buffs got within a point at 21-22, but then the Great Danes finished the frame with the next three points.

The Great Danes took the third set 25-18. It was another close set until UA used a 6-0 run to take a 22-14 lead. The Buffs fought hard and at the end of the set were able to fight off two match points, but unfortunately fell.

CU will play Fordham at 5 p.m. tonight and St. John's on Sunday at 10 a.m. to wrap up the Rose Hill Classic.
