PAC-12 MEN'S SOCCER NOTES
UCLA clinched its third Conference championship in four years and seventh overall with a 2-0 win over California on Friday. The Bruins won four-straight crowns from 2002-05 and then captured the 2008 and 2009 titles.
Head coach Jorge Salcedo, who has been a part of all seven championships as an assistant coach or head coach, won his 100th game as UCLA's head coach on Friday.
The regular season concludes with three Pac-12 matches this weekend. On Friday, Oregon State travels to No. 19/20 Washington, while Stanford heads to rival Cal. San Diego State hosts No. 6/6 UCLA on Saturday.
The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will air on NCAA.com on Monday, Nov. 14 at 1:30 p.m. PT. As the Pac-12 Champion, UCLA earned the Conference's automatic berth in the tournament.
Five Pac-12 players were named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District 8 Men's Soccer Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). OSU JR D Travis Anderson, UCLA JR MF Ryan Hollingshead and JR F Chandler Hoffman, Stanford JR F Dersu Abolfathi and Washington SR F Brent Richards earned the academic nods and are now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
UCLA SR D Shawn Singh earned his first Bank of the West Pac-12 Player of the Week award after coming up big for the Bruins on offense and defense over the weekend. Singh and the UCLA defense allowed no shots on goal in the win over Cal. On Sunday, Singh scored his first goal of the year, helping the Bruins defeat Stanford 3-0. For his efforts, Singh was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week.
Washington SO GK Spencer Richey ranks 25th in the NCAA with a 0.79 goals against average. He also leads the Conference with a 0.803 save percentage. Both Richey and UCLA RS SR GK Brian Rowe have eight shutouts on the season. Chandler Hoffman continues to lead the Pac-12 with 14 goals and 32 points. He ranks 14th in the nation in goals per game (0.74) and 16th in points per game (1.68).
