UW's Kim Named Golfer Of The Month

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON freshman SooBin Kim was named Pac-12 Women's Golfer of the Month for October, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Kim earned her first career victory in just her third collegiate tournament and set a Husky record at the Stanford Intercollegiate on Oct. 16. Her score of 13-under 200 was the lowest 54-hole tournament total in team history. The team combined to shoot a 5-under 847, bettering their previous record of 850, also set at the Stanford Intercollegiate in 2003. Kim's score of 13-under equaled Anya Alvarez's 54-hole total versus par in 2008 at the Las Vegas Invitational, but her gross score was three shots better than Alvarez's 203. She a fired 5-under 66 during the final round to win by two strokes over UCLA's Stephanie Kono. The 66 equaled the second lowest round ever by a Husky in the final round.

Kim, from Coquitlam, British Columbia, followed the Stanford Invitational with an even-par 216 to finish sixth at the Pac-12/SEC Challenge. All told, Kim played in four tournaments in October and posted three top 15 finishes, two top 10s and one win. After 15 rounds, she has an average score of 72.60 to rank 25th in the country and fifth among freshmen.

Washington is 12th in the country in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings after five fall events. The Huskies return to the course for the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford February 18-19.
