UCLA Defeats Illinois To Claim National Title

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Outside hitter Rachael Kidder had 20 kills and UCLA beat Illinois in the NCAA women's volleyball championship to give the Bruins their first title in two decades Saturday night.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Junior Rachael Kidder had a double-double with 21 kills and 12 digs, senior Lauren Van Orden added 43 assists and eight digs and senior Lainey Gera produced 17 digs, as the ninth-seeded Bruins advanced to their first National Championship match since 1994 with a three-set sweep of #12 Florida State on Thursday at The Alamodome.

SAN ANTONIO - Colleen Ward posted 27 kills and 22 digs Thursday as the No. 3 seed Illinois Fighting Illini advanced to the 2011 national championship with a five-set win over the No. 7 seed USC Women of Troy (25-27, 25-18, 25-22, 18-25, 15-10) in a national semifinal played in front of 10,525 at The Alamodome. USC was attempting to become the first team in NCAA women's volleyball tournament history to advance to the title match with three straight five-set wins, but could not hold off the Illini in the final stanza.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Regional Most Outstanding Player Rachael Kidder had a match-high 26 kills, junior Tabi Love posted 18 kills and senior Lainey Gera added 22 digs, as the ninth-seeded Bruins knocked off #1-seed Texas in four sets on Saturday in the Lexington Regional Championship match to advance to the National Semifinals next weekend in San Antonio.
No. 7 USC 3, No. 15 Pepperdine 2
HONOLULU - After trailing 2-1 in the match, the No. 7 seed USC Women of Troy defeated the No. 15 seed Pepperdine Waves, 3-2 (25-16, 26-28, 19-25, 25-19, 15-10), to win the NCAA Honolulu Regional and advance to the 2011 NCAA Final Four next weekend at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Junior Rachael Kidder had a match-high 15 kills and sophomore Kelly Reeves posted a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, as the ninth-seeded Bruins swept #8 Penn State on Friday in the Regional Semifinals to end the four-time, defending champions' 26-match winning streak. Set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 25-21.
