Buffaloes To Face UNLV In NCAA Tournament Thursday

BOULDER - The University of Colorado men's basketball team has earned the No. 11 seed in South Region of the 2012 NCAA Tournament and will play No. 6 seed UNLV in a second round game on Thursday, March 15 at The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M.

Colorado, 23-11 overall, received the Pac-12 Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after defeating Arizona 53-51 in the Pac-12 Tournament championship Saturday in Los Angeles. The No. 6 seed Buffaloes claimed their first ever conference tournament title and won four games in four days for the first time in team history. UNLV, out of the Mountain West Conference, is 26-8 overall.

The winner of Thursday's game would play either No. 3 seed Baylor or No. 14 South Dakota State in a third round game on Saturday.

Colorado makes its first appearance since 2003 and just the third since 1970. This will be Colorado's 11th trip to the NCAA Tournament with an all-time record of 9-12. CU's best finish was a trip to the 1955 Final Four.

This will be the first meeting between UNLV and Colorado since a 65-59 Buffs win in Las Vegas on Dec. 22, 1981. The Rebels hold a 4-1 edge in the series.

Game times have yet to be determined. Four games will be played Thursday with a pair of third round games on Saturday. Session 1 will be the first two games played Thursday, Session 2 follows with two games Thursday evening. Session 3 is Saturday's third round battles.
