Stanford tops preseason soccer poll

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Two Pac-12 teams are ranked in the top-10 in the first National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) coaches poll released on Tuesday.  Defending NCAA Champion Stanford tops the poll after an undefeated 2011 campaign, while UCLA will start the season ranked No. 6, returning 11 starters from a team that lost just one game in 2011. Stanford and UCLA were the only Pac-12 schools to crack the top-25.

The Cardinal returns seven starters from last year's national championship team, including NSCAA All-America goalkeeper Emily Oliver and reigning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Chioma Ubogagu.  Seniors Rachel Quon and Alina Garciamendez, both All-Pac 12 selections in 2011, bolster a squad that led the nation in goal-differential a year ago.

The 2012 season kicks off August 17-19. The Pac-12 Network will televise 58 live women's soccer contests in, including more than 40 appearances from 2011 NCAA Tournament-qualifying teams. The schedule kicks off with top-ranked Stanford hosting No. 17 Santa Clara in the Pac-12 Networks' first-ever live event production.
