Cal's Salciccia named Pac-12 men's soccer player of the week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA senior midfielder Tony Salciccia was named the Pac-12 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-21, the Conference announced today.
Salciccia, a native of San Jose, Calif., tallied three points on the weekend, including scoring the Golden Bear's lone goal in a 1-1 tie with Washington on Oct. 19. He converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute to tie the game with the Huskies. In the 1-0 win against Oregon State, Salciccia earned an assist when he took the corner kick that led to John Fitzpatrick's goal. Salciccia leads Cal in points (15), and ranks second in assists (five) and game-winning goals (two). He is tied for the team high in goals with five.
California is now 3-3-1 in Pac-12 play and ranks third in the standings. Cal is just two points out of second place.
It is Salciccia's first-career player of the week honor. It is California's 21st all-time player of the week and the first this season.
The Golden Bears have the week off before heading to SAN DIEGO STATE on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The following game at UCLA on Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks. California's matches will be broadcasted in seven of the unprecedented 28 live Pac-12 men's soccer contests on the Networks this season.
