By the Pac-12 Conference
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Volleyball Players of the Week for the week of Nov. 5-11. OREGON's Liz Brenner was named the Offensive Player of the Week and STANFORD's Brittany Howard was selected Freshman and Defensive Player of the week.
Sophomore Liz Brenner (Portland, Ore.) led Oregon in wins over Arizona State and Arizona to help the Ducks improve to a 22-3 record overall. Brenner posted team three-set season highs in kills (18), points (23.5) and aces (4) against Arizona. She also topped the team in hitting percentage with an impressive .516 against the Sun Devils. The four aces for Brenner were a career high. Against Arizona State Brenner marked her fourth double-double of the season tallying 17 kills and 11 digs. On the season she ranks second on the team in kills (3.93) and points (360.5).
Freshman outside hitter Brittany Howard (Los Altos, Calif.) was sensational for the Cardinal in a sweep over Washington State and a four-set win over then fifth-ranked Washington. Howard averaged 6.14 digs per set and 0.57 blocks per set on the weekend. She posted her sixth double-double of the season against the Cougars with 10 kills and a team-high 12 digs to go with three blocks. Against the Huskies Howard really made her presence felt as she posted her seventh double-double of the year and third in a row. Howard tallied a team-high 12 kills and 31 digs. The 31 digs were a career high and tied for the third most in a single match in school history, and the most by a non-libero. Stanford improved to 24-2 on the season with a perfect 16-0 in Conference play.
It is Brenner's first-career weekly nod and Oregon's 24th weekly honor all-time. It is Howard's first-career weekly player of the week honor and second freshman of the week honor. It is Stanford's 84th weekly honor all-time and the sixth time this season a Stanford freshman has received the weekly award.
Weekly awards have been selected every week of the season since the Conference began sponsoring women's volleyball in 1986. It is the second year the Pac-12 has announced an offensive, defensive and rookie honoree.
Both the Cardinal and the Ducks hit the road this week. The top-ranked team in the nation, Stanford will travel south as they visit USC on Thursday, Nov 15 and UCLA on Friday, Nov. 16. The Ducks travel to WASHINGTON on Friday, Nov 16 and then head to WASHINGTON STATE on Saturday, Nov. 17.
