WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Six Pac-12 baseball players have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America Team, the NCBWA announced Wednesday. Four players landed on the first team, and two graced the second team. The Pac-12's four first team representatives are the most from any conference.

Outfielder Michael Conforto of Oregon State and pitchers Mark Appel of Stanford, Adam Plutko of UCLA and Jimmie Sherfy of Oregon are first team selections, while Arizona State pitcher Trevor Williams and UCLA hurler David Berg garnered second team consideration.

Conforto, who is one of just three sophomores on the first team, led the league in home runs (13) and RBI (76) and batted .349 in 2012 en route to being named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and earning second team All-America laurels from the NCBWA.

Plutko, a two-time all-conference honoree, went 12-3 with a 2.48 ERA with 99 strikeouts and 47 walks. He was a second team NCBWA All-American in 2012.

Sherfy, the Pac-12 leader in saves (19) in 2012, struck out 93 batters in 61.1 innings, earning a first team all-conference nod and second team All-America acclaim from the NCBWA.
