Four bowl wins highlight 2012 football season

The culmination of the 2012 Pac-12 football season included a pair of BCS bowl wins as the Pac-12 champion Stanford Cardinal knocked off Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl and the Oregon Ducks topped Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl in a postseason that saw the Pac-12 send a record eight teams into bowl games... Stanford earned it's 13th trip to the Rose Bowl by virtue of its 27-24 victory over the South Division's UCLA Bruins in the Pac-12 Football Championship Game... A record-tying eight teams produced winning records during the 2012 season--only the teams of the Pac-10 during the 2002 season equalled that feat... USC sophomore WR Marqise Lee, the Pac-12's Offensive Player of the Year, earned the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top reciever during a record-breaking season... Arizona State junior DT Will Sutton was named the Pac-12's Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year and was honored by the league's offensive lineman with the Morris Trophy as the league's top defensive lineman... Stanford's David Shaw was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year for the second straight season after guiding the Cardinal to their third consecutive 11-win season.

ARIZONA: The Wildcats won their first bowl game since the 2008 MAACO Bowl Las Vegas in dramatic fashion as they overcame a 48-35 deficit in the final 1:48 behind a pair of TD passes from senior QB Matt Scott...The 38.2 scoring average was second best in UA history, trailing the 1954 quad (38.5)... Set a school record and ranked seventh in the FBS in total offense (526.15 ypg)... Scott led the Pac-12 and ranked sixth in the FBS in total offense (343.83 ypg) and threw for 3,620 yards this season... Sophomore All-America RB Ka'Deem Carey led the nation in rushing (148.4 ypg). His 1,929 rushing yards set an Arizona single-season record, and represent the fifth best single-season total in Pac-12 history. Carey set a Pac-12 single-game rushing record with 366 yards vs. Colorado. He also set the UA single-season rushing TD mark with 23... Sophomore WR Austin Hill's 81 receptions and 1,364 receiving yards rank among the top five in UA single-season history, while his 11 TD receptions tied a UA single-season mark.

ARIZONA STATE: Routed Navy in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, 62-28. The 62-point scoring output is a Pac-12 bowl record... All-America junior DT Will Sutton recorded 13 sacks and 23.5 TFL. He led the Pac-12 and tied for second in the FBS with 1.96 TFL per game. He was the Pac-12's defensive recipient of the Morris Trophy, which is voted on by the Pac-12's offensive linemen, and a big reason ASU ranked second in FBS with 4.0 sacks per game... ASU shut out six teams in the fourth quarter this year and outscored opponents 126-62 in the period... Senior P Josh Hubner topped the Pac-12 and ranked second in the FBS with a 47.13 avg... Sophomore QB Taylor Kelly completed 241 of 359 pass attempts for a school-record 67.1 pass completion percentage (over 301 attempts)... Junior TE Chris Coyle established a new school record for receptions by a tight end in a season (57)… Went from the most penalized Pac-12 team in 2011 (104 penalties, 79.8 avg) to the least penalized in 2012 (55 penalities, 34.9 ypg).

CALIFORNIA: WR Keenan Allen, who caught a pass in each of his 33 games at Cal, set the school mark for career receptions (205). He ranks third in school history in career receiving yards (2,570) and seventh in career receiving touchdowns (17). His 6.78 receptions per game in 2012 ranked third in the Pac-12 and 20th in the FBS, while his 81.89 ypg were good for sixth in the Pac-12. He also led the league in punt return average, netting 14.1 avg…Senior RBs Isi Sofele and C.J. Anderson bolstered the league's fifth-best rushing attack (183.0 ypg), accounting for 1,547 of the Bears' 2,196 total rushing yards…Senior CB Steve Williams, who tied for the team lead with three INTs and registered a team-high 10 pass breakups in 2012... Hired head coach Sonny Dykes in December after a season in which he guided Louisiana Tech to a 9-3 record. His squad boasted the nation's top scoring offense (51.5 ppg) and climbed as high as No. 18 in the national rankings in 2012.

COLORADO: Senior DE Will Pericak started all 49 games in which he played at Colorado, setting school records for most consecutive starts and most total starts by a player. He also became the ninth full-time defensive lineman to register 200 career tackles… Freshman RBs Christian Powell (691) and Donta Abron (256) combined for 947 rushing yards, the third-highest total by a freshman running back tandem in school history. Powell is the fifth freshman to lead the team in rushing, and his 691 yards rank second all-time among freshmen at Colorado (Lamont Warren, 830 yards in 1991)… Sophomore P Darragh O'Neill averaged 43.5 yards per punt to rank third in the Pac-12 and 18th in the FBS. He also placed a school-record 25 punts inside the 20... Mike MacIntyre took the reins of the Colorado program in December after leading San Jose State to its best record in school history (11-2), and a No. 21 final national ranking in 2012.

OREGON: The Ducks, participants in four consecutive BCS bowls, topped No. 7 Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl, 35-17.... All-America senior RB Kenjon Barner ranked second in the Pac-12 and fourth in the FBS in rushing, averaging 135.92 ypg. His 1,767 rushing yards this season represent the fourth-highest single-season total in school history, while his 21 rushing TDs tie him with former Duck LaMichael James for the most in a single season. Barner is the Ducks' second-leading rusher all-time with 3,623 yards and finished his career only 21 yards shy of James' UO record of 5,869 all-purpose yards... Freshman QB Marcus Mariota set a Pac-12 freshman record with 32 TD passes, while his 38 total touchdowns this season surpassed former Ducks Akili Smith's and Darron Thomas' single-season mark of 36... Oregon's offense finished the year ranked second in the FBS in scoring, averaging 49.54 ppg. The 448 points scored by UO in conference play is a Pac-12 record, while the 645 points scored overall this season matched the Pac-12 record established by the Ducks last season... Oregon has been ranked among the AP Top 10 in each of the last 29 polls, and 45 of the last 47 polls... The Ducks will begin the 2013 season with a new coach after Chip Kelly was named head coach of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. Kelly posted a record of 46-7 (.868) in four seasons at Oregon.

OREGON STATE: Oregon State averaged 32.54 ppg, the second-best average in school history... It's scoring defense ranked 22nd in the FBS, allowing 20.62 ppg, while its rushing defense ranked 27th, allowing 129.5 yards per game... The Beavers led the Pac-12 in red zone efficiency at 91.4 percent (53-58)... Coach Mike Riley became the school's all-time leader in wins (now 81)... All-America senior CB Jordan Poyer led the Pac-12 with seven interceptions and finished second in the FBS with 0.58 interceptions per game... Senior WR Markus Wheaton set the OSU career reception record with 227. Wheaton hauled in 91 passes for 1,244 yards, while sophomore WR Brandin Cooks had 67 receptions for 1,151 yards. Together they formed one of the most dangerous receiving duos in the nation, averaging a combined 184.23 receiving yards per game.

STANFORD: The Cardinal improved to 6-6-1 in Rose Bowl Games with a 20-14 victory over Wisconsin. It was the first Rose Bowl win for the Cardinal in 40 years (defeated Michigan, 13-12 on Jan. 1, 1972)... Senior RB Stepfan Taylor rushed for a school record 4,300 yards for his career... Sophomore QB Kevin Hogan went 5-0 as Stanford's starting QB and notched four wins over ranked opponents. In his five starts, Hogan completed 90 of 128 pass attempts (70.3 percent) for 903 yards and 6 TDs... Sophomore S Ed Reynolds recorded six interceptions for 301 return yards, which is one yard shy of the NCAA single-season record of 302 (USC's Charles Phillips in 1974)... Led the Pac-12 and ranked fifth in the FBS in rushing defense, allowing just 97.0 rushing ypg... Pac-12 Coach of the Year David Shaw is the first Stanford coach to win 11 games in each of his first two seasons at the helm... Stanford has won at least 11 games in each of the last three seasons, a first in school history, and a feat only matched by two other teams (Boise State and Oregon)... Has been ranked by the AP in a school-record 47 consecutive polls.

UCLA: UCLA's nine wins are the most since 2005 when it posted a 10-2 record...Walter Camp second team All-Amercia senior RB Johnathan Franklin, who rushed for a school single-season record 1,734 yards this year. He established Bruin career records for rushing yards (4,403) and all-purpose yardage (4,925)… Freshman QB Brett Hundley set school single-season records with 318 completions, 3,740 passing yards and 4,095 yards in total offense. In his final seven games, Hundley completed 151 of 227 passes (66.5%) for 1,824 yards with 15 TDs and four interceptions... Sophomore LB Eric Kendricks led the Pac-12 and ranked ninth in the FBS with 151 total tackles (10.8 per game)... Only one head coach has won as many games in his first season at UCLA as Jim Mora (9) - Terry Donahue, 1976 (9-2-1).

USC: Sophomore WR Marqise Lee, the Biletnikoff Award winner, set Pac-12 single-season records for receptions (118) and receiving yards (1,721), as well as single-game receiving yards (345)... Opposite Lee, junior WR Robert Woods closed out his career as USC's all-time receptions leader with 252. He ranks third all-time in the Pac-12 in career receptions, seven shy of thePac-12 record held by Arizona's Mike Thomas (259, 2005-08)... Senior QB Matt Barkley owns Pac-12 career records for passing yardage (12,327), completions (1,001), pass TDs (116) and total offense (12,214). He's also thrown for 2,500 yards in each of his four seasons, another Pac-12 record... USC has not been shut out in its past 193 games, breaking the previous school record of 186 set from 1967 to 1983.

UTAH: Utah led the Pac-12 and tied for 11th in the FBS in fourth-down conversion defense, holding opponents to 30.8 percent (4-13) on the year…The Utes ranked second in the Conference and 22nd in the nation in rushing defense, allowing 128.17 yards per game on the ground...Senior RB John White rushed for 1,041 yards, becoming the first Utah running back to reach 1,000 rushing yards in consecutive seasons. He ranks sixth in school history with 2,560 career rushing yards and owns the school record for 100-yard rushing games (14). He rushed for 100 yards or more in each of Utah's final five games in 2012, including a season-high 168-yard rushing effort in the finale against Colorado…Senior WR/KR Reggie Dunn set the NCAA record for 100-yard kickoff returns for touchdowns in a season (4) and in a career (5)…Senior P Sean Sellwood ranked second in the Pac-12 in gross punting, averaging 46.5 yards per attempt.

WASHINGTON: Sophomore TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins set school career marks for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns by a tight end with 110 receptions for 1,390 yards and 13 TDs. Additionally, Seferian-Jenkins' 69 receptions and 852 yards this year represent school records for the position... Sophomore WR Kasen Williams posted 77 receptions this season, the third best single-season mark in school history... Sophomore TB Bishop Sankey notched the UW's fourth straight 1,000-yard season. Sankey is the 11th different Husky to rush for 1,000 yards, and his 1,439 yards are third-most in UW single-season history... Thanks in part to All-Pac-12 senior DB Desmond Trufant, the Huskies finished the season ranked 23rd in the nation (second in the Pac-12) in pass defense, allowing just 197.3 yards per game... Washington will meet Boise State again in just over eight months as they open the 2013 season with the Broncos in renovated Husky Stadium on Aug. 31, 2013.

WASHINGTON STATE: In the annual Apple Cup, the Cougars overcame an 18-point fourth quarter deficit to stun Washington in overtime, 31-28…QBs Jeff Tuel (2,091) and Connor Halliday (1,874) threw for a combined 3,965 yards in 2012, a total that led the Pac-12 and ranked ninth in the FBS. It is also the second-highest single-season total in school history (4,120 yards in 1997)…WSU collected 35 sacks on the season—its highest total since 2006— to rank 11th in the FBS. Leading the charge was senior LB Travis Long, who started all 47 games in which he played at Washington State. He registered 20.5 career sacks to rank sixth on WSU's all-time list, and his 42.0 tackles for loss were the fourth-highest career total in school history. Juniors Deone Bucannon and Andrew Furney were second team All-Pac-12 selections. Bucannon racked up a team-high 106 tackles, the second-highest total in the Pac-12, and added four interceptions and four pass breakups. Furney was perfect on field goal attempts from inside 30 yards (7-7), while converting 6 of 10 attempts of at least 40 yards. He kicked a 60-yarder against Eastern Washington, the longest successful try in the Pac-12 this season.
