Multis Head To Pac-12 Championships

May 3, 2013

BOULDER -The 2013 Pac-12 Track and Field Championship will start on Saturday, May 4, for the heptathlon and decathlon participants, and the University of Colorado is sending four athletes to compete.

USC is hosting the championships at Katherine B. Locker Stadium in Los Angeles. Senior Brianne Beemer, junior Genny Mayden and redshirt freshman Abrianna Torres will compete in the heptathlon and junior Brock Emory will compete in the decathlon.

Beemer is currently ranked third in the conference heading into this weekend's competition with 5,362 points and is looking to better her performance from last year's championship when she placed fourth overall. Beemer is CU's record holder in the indoor pentathlon (4,059) and currently ranks fourth on CU's all-time heptathlon performers list. Beemer is also currently 17th in the national standings.

Torres is fourth in the conference with 5,174 points and Mayden is eighth (4,399) despite not finishing her one heptathlon earlier this season. Mayden had an outstanding performance at the meet in 2012, placing third overall. Her PR is 5,362 points, which she set at Pac-12s last season.

Emory is the only CU male competing this weekend in the decathlon and also looks to do well as he is currently seventh overall in the conference (6,832). This is his first Pac-12 meet as he redshirted the 2012 campaign after suffering an injury during the indoor season.

This weekend's action will conclude on Sunday, May 5. The rest of the championship will be on May 11-12, also in L.A.
