NCAA softball: ASU wins, Oregon falls in first games of Super Regionals

Fifth-seeded Arizona State took care of business in game one of the Super Regionals on Saturday, defeating twelfth-seeded Kentucky, 5-4, in Tempe. The Sun Devils struck first, going up 3-0 in the third inning thanks to a three-run homerun from Cheyenne Coyle. ASU added two more runs and Kentucky also got on the board in the fifth. Then, the Wildcats gave the Sun Devils a scare in the sixth as they rallied with two homers from Alice O'Brien and Christian Stokes, but ASU held on for the win. The Sun Devils and Wildcats will play game two on Sunday at 2 p.m. PT on ESPN. If necessary, the third and deciding game will be played at 5 p.m. PT on ESPN2.

As for the No. 3 Ducks, they fell in a tough game to fourteenth-seeded Nebraska, 5-2, in Eugene on Saturday. The game remained scoreless up until the fifth inning when the Huskers struck quickly with an RBI single and and then a grand slam off of Brooke Thomason's bat giving them a 5-0 lead. Oregon plated two runs in the seventh inning but could not pull out a win. Luckily, it is a best-of-three game series and the Ducks will get a second chance in game two on Sunday, which starts at noon PT on ESPNU. If the Ducks force a game three, it will be played right after at 3 p.m. PT on ESPNU.
