UW Begins Season Ranked 23rd

SEATTLE -- On the day that Washington men’s soccer reports for preseason, the Dawgs found out they will enter the season ranked 23rd in the nation. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced its preseason poll on Tuesday with Indiana as the top ranked team and UW one of two ranked Pac-12 teams.

The Dawgs finished last season ranked 24th and move up one spot after returning much of the talent that got Washington to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In addition, the Huskies have added a dynamic group of newcomers that includes 11 freshmen and transfers Darwin Jones and Brad Jacobsen.

The NSCAA poll list the defending national champion Hoosiers at No. 1 followed by Maryland, Georgetown, North Carolina and Connecticut in the top five. UCLA is the other ranked team at No. 9, having won the past two Pac-12 titles.

The Dawgs will face three team that begin the season ranked with No. 5 UConn and No. 18 Brown during the non-conference season and No. 9 UCLA twice during Pac-12 play.

Washington opens the season with an exhibition game on August 24 at 7:30 p.m., when Seattle Pacific comes to the Husky Soccer Field. The regular season opener will on August 30 at Gonzaga.
