Huskies Look to Break out at Portland Invitational

Sep 4, 2013

SEATTLE – Washington will head south for the Nike Portland Invitational this weekend, looking to get back on track against a pair of teams one year removed from NCAA Tournament appearances.

The Huskies (1-3, 0-0 Pac-12) will take on No. 7 Wake Forest at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and return to the pitch to play Central Michigan at noon on Sunday. Both matches will be hosted by the Portland Pilots at Merlo Field.

Neither match will be broadcast on TV, but live stats will be available on for both. For live stats of the Huskies match vs. Wake Forest, click here. For live stats of the Huskies match vs. Central Michigan, click here.

After losing 1-0 to Baylor on Friday and 1-0 to Boise State on Sunday, the Huskies will look to shake their struggles against a Wake Forest team that has had little trouble scoring goals.

Coming off a second round exit in last season’s NCCA Tournament, the Demon Deacons (3-0, 0-0 ACC) have won their first three games of the 2013 campaign, outscoring their opponents, 8-2.

The Chippewas (0-2-1, 0-0 MAC) are looking for their first win of the season, after losing to Michigan in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last year.

This will be the Huskies first meeting against both Wake Forest and Central Michigan.

After the tournament, the Huskies will return home for a pair of matches against local rivals. The Seattle Redhawks will make the crosstown trip to Husky Soccer Stadium on Friday, September 13 for a 7 p.m. first kick. A week later, the Gonzaga Bulldogs will visit Seattle for a 4:30 p.m. match that will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
