Bears Enter National Rankings At No. 23

Sep 9, 2013

BERKELEY – After winning the Bluejay Invitational last weekend, which included a victory over then-No. 19 Creighton, Cal’s women’s volleyball team has entered the AVCA Top 25 at No. 23 this week.

This marks the first time the Bears (5-0) have been ranked since the week of Aug. 27 last year, when they were No. 25. The following week, they were unranked for the first time since the final poll of the 2002 season. Cal was ranked No. 24 in the 2003 preseason poll and remained in the top 25 every week until the week of Sept. 4, 2012.

The Bears have yet to drop a set this season, winning all five matches they have played in a sweep.

Cal hosts the Hilton Garden Inn this weekend at Haas Pavilion. The Bears play Cal Poly on Thursday at 7 p.m., Santa Clara on Friday at 7 p.m. and Kansas State on Saturday at 1 p.m. Kansas St. received votes  in this week’s AVCA Top 25 and is ranked 31st.
