2013-14 Stanford Women's Basketball Schedule

Stanford women’s basketball will make at least 22 TV appearances during the 2013-14 regular season as the Pac-12 released the complete schedule for the upcoming campaign Tuesday.

The 13-time defending Pac-12 champion Cardinal was tabbed for a conference-high 20 appearances on the conference’s television schedule with 17 of those coming on the Pac-12 Network and three on the ESPN family of networks. Stanford’s three-game homestand against Gonzaga (Dec. 14, 1 p.m.), New Mexico (Dec. 16, 7 p.m.) and Tennessee (Dec. 21, 1:30 p.m.) will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network and 17 of the Cardinal’s 18 conference matchups will be shown live on TV.

Season tickets for the 2013-14 season are available as well as the "Starting Five" and "2-3 Zone" packages. Fans can visit Women's Basketball Central for more information on ticket packages and how to purchase.

Along with the 20 appearances through the Pac-12 television schedule, Stanford will also have two non-conference road games televised, starting with Nov. 11’s clash at Connecticut at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN2 which leads off the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon. The Cardinal’s visit to Texas Nov. 23 will be aired live on Fox Sports Net at 10:30 a.m. PT.

In addition to the Nov. 11 contest in Storrs, Stanford will appear on the ESPN family of networks thrice during conference play, highlighted by Jan. 27’s ESPN Big Monday contest against USC at 6 p.m. at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal’s trip to Berkeley to face cross-bay rival California on Feb. 2 will be shown on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. and a week later the Stanford-Washington clash in Seattle will air on ESPNU at 12:30 p.m.

Stanford, which finished 33-3 and advanced to the Spokane Regional Semifinals a year ago, returns 10 players including four starters in 2013-14. The returning corps is led by two-time All-American and reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year Chiney Ogwumike, who captured the Pac-12 Triple Crown last year with 22.4 points per game, 12.9 rebounds per game and a 58.6 field-goal percentage. Also returning are All-Pac-12 Team point guard Amber Orrange (10.8 ppg, 4.08 apg), redshirt senior forward Mikaela Ruef (4.2 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and senior guard Sara James (5.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg). The group is bolstered by a highly-touted freshman class that features forwards Kailee Johnson and Erica McCall along with guards Briana Roberson, Lili Thompson and Karlie Samuelson.

Tara VanDerveer enters her 28th at the Cardinal helm and 35th overall as a head coach with a career record of 894-203. With six wins VanDerveer will become just the fifth Division I women’s basketball head coach to reach 900 career wins.

Stanford opens Pac-12 play Friday, Jan. 3 at home against Oregon, taking on the Ducks at 6 p.m., closing the weekend Jan. 5 against Oregon State. The Cardinal will spend the next two weekends on the road, taking on Utah (Jan. 10) and Colorado (Jan. 12) for the only times during the 2013-14 regular season then making the trip to the desert to face Arizona (Jan. 17) and Arizona State (Jan. 20).

UCLA visits Maples Pavilion Jan. 24 before the Trojans come calling three days later. Jan. 30 marks the highly-anticipated first meeting between last season’s Pac-12 co-champions as the Cardinal hosts California at 8 p.m. Three days later the Cardinal returns the favor with a visit to Berkeley.

Stanford splits its final eight conference contests between Maples Pavilion and the road, visiting Washington State (Feb. 7) and Washington (Feb. 9) before returning home to host Arizona State (Feb. 14) and Arizona (Feb. 16). After a late-February trip to Los Angeles to face USC (Feb. 21) and UCLA (Feb. 23) the Cardinal closes out the regular season at Maples against Washington (Feb. 27) and Washington State (March 1).

The Pac-12 slate, which features three 2013 NCAA Tournament opponents (California, Colorado, UCLA) as well as WNIT finalist Utah and WNIT participant Washington, follows a 12-game non-conference schedule that includes seven NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago in Connecticut (Nov. 11), Cal Poly (Nov. 15), Purdue (Nov. 26), South Dakota State (Nov. 28), Gonzaga (Dec. 14), Tennessee (Dec. 21) and Fresno State (Dec. 28).

Making up the rest of the non-conference slate is Boston College (Nov. 9), UC Davis (Nov. 17), Texas (Nov. 23), Florida Gulf Coast (Nov. 27) and New Mexico (Dec. 16). The Cardinal faces Purdue, Florida Gulf Coast and South Dakota State at the 2013 Hardwood Tournament For Hope from Nov. 26-28 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The 2014 Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament is set for March 6-9 at KeyArena in Seattle. All first-round, quarterfinal and semifinal contests will be carried on the Pac-12 Network with March 9’s title game to be aired on one of the ESPN family of networks.
