Roundup: Arizona State ready for respect

Sep 11, 2013

Arizona State

Check out this upcoming schedule for the Sun Devils: No. 20 Wisconsin at home, No. 5 Stanford on the road, USC at home and No. 21 Notre Dame in Dallas. Looking at those contests, it’s good that Arizona State is ready to kick off its national respect tour.

USC

Now that he has been tabbed as the No.1 signal caller in Troy by Lane Kiffin, Cody Kessler is eager for a fresh start at USC.

UCLA

The loss of Nick Pasquale has really put things in perspective for the Bruins, but Jim Mora says UCLA will have to handle its emotions when it makes the trip to No. 23 Nebraska this Saturday.

Stanford

With so many ties to the service academy for the Cardinal head coach and his team, the upcoming Army game has a special meaning for David Shaw and Stanford. For an example, look no further than Shaw’s father, Willie Shaw, who enlisted in the Air Force out of high school.

Washington

It wasn’t too long ago that this dude was taking out his own teammates at practice, but now he’s one of the veteran leaders of the Huskies’ defense. Learn more about the story of Sean Parker: From banished to team captain, a Gregg Bell joint.

California

RG3, Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning and Colin Kaepernick. What do those guys have in common, outside of being starting quarterbacks in the NFL? None of them threw for as many yards as Jared Goff in the first two games of their freshman year in college. As such, Goff is earning high praise.

Arizona

Arizona fans must have loved every second of the return of last year’s leading rusher in the nation, because with the ball in his hands, Ka’Deem Carey quickly found his comfort zone against UNLV, going for 171 yards on 16 carries and a couple of scores.

Colorado

Just because he’s putting up early-to-mid-2000’s Terrell Owens-esque stats doesn’t mean he’s acting like T.O. Nah, Paul Richardson is staying humble despite his big numbers.

Oregon

You might not have noticed it because Oregon is going gangbusters on everybody thus far, but Marcus Mariota’s completion percentage is down precipitously from last season. It’s still hecka early in the season though, so in order to improve his unusually low completion rate, Mariota is channeling a shooter’s approach.

Oregon State

There’s a well-known bromance between this wide receiver and running back, and Brandin Cooks dishes on sharing catches and the kitchen with Storm Woods. Sounds like Woods is a poacher in the kitchen…

Utah

With Reggie Topps, Ryan Lacy and Mo Lee all having moved on, it’s up to Eric Rowe to lead Utah’s inexperienced secondary.

Washington State

Hey Coug supporters, it’s time to vote for the 2013 Homecoming uniform! No. 13 has my vote. Polls close Tuesday, so you still have a little time.
