Bruins Beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 20-3

REDLANDS, Calif. -- The No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 20-3 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps today at the Inland Empire Classic. Junior Daniel Lenhart and freshman Ryder Roberts each scored hat tricks for the Bruins. A total of 13 different players scored for UCLA.

The Bruins led 7-2 at the end of the first period. Seven different Bruins scored in the opening quarter. Senior Lucas Reynolds and freshman Gordon Marshall each scored goals at two meters, marking the sixth straight game to open the season that the pair have scored at least one goal. Roberts, senior Chris Wendt and freshman Lovre Milos each scored on counter attacks. It also makred Milos' sixth straight game with a goal. Freshman Chancellor Ramirez scored an exclusion goal and junior Chris Fahlsing scored from the front court to end the scoring in the opening period. Both of the Stags' goals came on power plays.

UCLA increased its lead to 13-2 by halftime, scoring six more goals in the second quarter while pitching a shutout on defense. Lenhart scored two goals in the period, connecting from the front court and also on a power play. Wendt scored his second of the game on a counter attack and senior Aimone Barabino and redshirt junior Cristiano Mirarchi picked up counter attacks goals as well. Roberts scored the final goal of the first half on a power play, his second score of the day.

The Bruins surrendered a goal from five meters in the third period, but put three more on the scoreboard to lead 16-3 through three quarters. Roberts started things off with a goal from the front court to complete his hat trick. Then redshirt freshman Alec Zwaneveld extended his scoring streak to six games to start the season with a strike from two meters. Paul Reynolds ended the scoring in the third with his first goal of the game on a 6-on-5 opportunity.

UCLA won the fourth quarter 4-0 to post a 20-3 final score. Lucas Reynolds and Paul Reynolds each scored their second goals of the game on counter attacks. Then sophomore Danny McClintick put his first goal on the board with a power play score. Lenhart then completed his hat trick with the final goal of the game on a counter attack.

The Bruins were 5-for-7 on power plays while the Stags were 2-for-7 on power plays. Neither team attempted a penalty shot.

Redshirt freshman Garrett Danner started in goal and played the first quarter, registering three saves. Junior Stephen White played the final three quarters and was credited with seven stops and one steal.
