Cats Fall Short at No. 10 Hawaii, 3-1

TUCSON, Ariz. – Emily Hartong had a match-high 21 kills and No. 10 Hawaii earned the tournament title at the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Volleyball Challenge with a 3-1 (20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 23-25) victory over Arizona on Saturday night inside the Stan Sheriff Center.

No. 23 Cal Suffers First Loss Of Season

BERKELEY – Now the real work can begin. The No. 23 Cal women’s volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to Kansas State 16-25, 25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 15-9 at the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational at Haas Pavilion. The Bears (7-1), who hadn’t dropped a set in sweeping each of their first seven matches, now have the experience of figuring out what to correct for the first time in 2013.

Buffs Overpower Bears In Three

WACO, Texas —The University of Colorado volleyball team (8-1) dominated the Baylor Bears (4-7), sweeping them 25-21, 25-23, 25-11 to win the Baylor Invitational on Saturday night at the Ferrell Center.

Ducks Sweep Fresno State Classic, Williams Named MVP

FRESNO, Calif. – It took only nine sets for the No. 20 Oregon volleyball team (7-3) to come away with the Fresno State Classic Championship after Oregon defeated both Belmont and Fresno State in straight sets, Saturday. The Ducks took care of Belmont 25-12, 25-20, 25-15 and defeated Fresno State in the finale, 25-21, 25-17, 25-14.

Volleyball Outlasts UC Davis In Five Sets

PORTLAND – Arica Nassar and Tayla Woods each recorded double doubles as the Oregon State volleyball team outlasted UC Davis in five sets Saturday morning at the Chiles Center. Set scores were 25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 22-25 and 15-12.

Volleyball Sweeps Portland, Tournament

PORTLAND – The Oregon State volleyball team swept through the North Harbour Marriott Challenge at University of Portland, punctuating play with a sweep of the Pilots Saturday night at the Chiles Center.

11th-Ranked Bruins Claim Denver Invite With Win Over #24 Creighton

DENVER, Colo. — Three Bruins had double figures in kills, led by sophomore Maddy Klineman’s career-best 19, as #11 UCLA defeated #24 Creighton in four sets on Saturday to win the Denver Invitational. Set scores were 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19.

No. 1 USC Grinds Out Four-Set Win Over Gauchos

SAN DIEGO — The top-ranked USC women's volleyball team (7-1) got back on the winning track with a 3-1 win (20-25, 25-21, 25-15, 26-24) over UC Santa Barbara (3-5) in the USD Tournament at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 14. In her own coming out party, freshman outside hitter Elise Ruddins powered the Trojan offense with 24 kills (6e, 43att) and hit .419. The Women of Troy also got a double-double from senior outside hitter Sara Shaw who finished with 10 kills (5e, 32att, .156) and 12 digs.

SAN DIEGO — The No. 1-ranked USC women's volleyball team improved to 8-1 with a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-23, 25-21) of Eastern Washington (3-8) in the final match of the 2013 USD Tournament at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 14. The Women of Troy out-hit their opponent for the ninth time in nine matches and received 14 kills (5e, 27att, .333) from freshman outside hitter Elise Ruddins and 12 kills (2e, 29att, .345) from sophomore outside Samantha Bricio in the win.
