09/24/13 | Men's Golf

EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon men's golf team shot a +6/294 on the final day of competition and earned its first top-five finish of the year as well as its second-consecutive top-10 finish on the year. Brandon McIver led the way for the Ducks carding a final line of (71-75-74—220/+4) tying for 12th-place.

California added on to its lead from yesterday and finished -10/854. San Diego's Grant Forrest (71-69-69—209/-7) shot three-under part in the final round and edged the Golden Bear's Michael Weaver -6/210 by one stroke to take the top medalist spot.

Zach Foushee, Oregon's lone individual competitor, tied for sixth-place as the sophomore carded a +1/217 at the invitational.

Thomas Lim continued to improve as the tournament went on and shot -1, tying for 19th. Juniors Rak Cho and Jonathan Woo both shot 10-over par and carded a 75 and 78 respectively tying them for 42nd. Ryann Ree rounded things out for UO carding a 74 on the day and tied for 48th.

When asked about what the difference was between today and yesterday, head coach Casey Martin said, “It's hard to say, we made more birdies today which overcame our mistakes, but we're still making too many mistakes.” “Having said that, a second place finish is a step in the right direction,” said Martin about what he took out of this week's tournament.

The Ducks get a two-week break before their next competition on Oct. 14-15 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Sonoma, Calif., hosted by Cal.
