Black Edges Orange in Swimming Scrimmage

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Black team defeated the Orange team 120-114 Saturday morning, as the Oregon State swimming team hosted its annual Orange and Black Scrimmage. After trailing for most of the event, the Orange team cut the lead to 109-108 heading into the final race, but the Black team’s 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Amani Amr, freshman Anni Hecker, freshman Andrea Young and sophomore Sammy Harrison sealed the victory for their team with a first-place finish in the event (3:38.81).

Harrison, Amr, and Hecker led the Black team with two first-place finishes apiece. Harrison took first in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, with times of 1:55.78 and 5:08.97, respectively. Amr placed first in the 100 backstroke (58.19) and the 200 backstroke (2:06.39), while Hecker recorded back-to-back first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (25.37) and the 100 freestyle (55.15).

The Black relay team of Amr, freshman Czsarina Isleta, senior Aya Fujimura and Hecker won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.39.

On the Orange side, senior Crystal Kibby and freshman Brooke Meyer recorded two wins each. Kibby placed first in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke, with times of 1:07.64 and 2:24.52, respectively. Meyer won the 200 butterfly (2:10.13) and the 100 butterfly (59.66). Freshman Chelsea Chan finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.58.

The Beavers will return to action Friday when they host Utah.
