Beavers to Host Utah on Friday

Oct 10, 2013

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State swimming team will return to action Friday, as the Beavers hit the water to take on Pac-12 Conference-foe Utah at 4 p.m. at Stevens Natatorium. The meet will mark the second of three consecutive competitive home meets for Oregon State to start the season.

The Beavers opened their 2013-14 campaign with a 161-95 defeat at the hands of California on Sept. 27. The meet was highlighted by the performance of sophomore Sammy Harrison, who recorded a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle, to go along with a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle. Senior Crystal Kibby opened the season on a strong note as well, taking second in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke, and finishing third in the 200 IM.

The Beaver freshmen will be looking to make their mark in this week’s meet. Freshmen Anni Hecker and Brooke Meyer both recorded a pair of victories at last Saturday’s Orange and Black Scrimmage. Hecker placed first in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, while Meyer won the 200 butterfly and the 100 butterfly.

Facing the Beavers will be a Utah squad that has yet to swim in a competitive meet this year. The Utes finished seventh at last season’s Pac-12 Championships, and will be looking to improve on that mark in 2013-14.

Following Friday’s meet, the Beavers will host their final competitive home meet of the fall on Friday Oct. 25, when they take on Stanford. That meet has been moved to the Osborn Aquatic Center.
