Estlander Wins on Day 1 in Saint Mary’s Invite
MORAGA, Calif. – California’s Cecilia Estlander won in singles on Friday to advance to the round of 16 on the first day of the Saint Mary’s Invitational at Korth Tennis Complex. The Golden Bear junior defeated Gonzaga’s Kylie Peek, 6-2, 6-2, in the Red Singles flight round of 32 and will next take on the Gaels’ Catherine Leduc at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Cal senior Kelly Chui fell in the Red Singles opening round of 32 to Fresno State’s Aishwarya Agrawal, 6-4, 6-2. Chui next faces LMU’s Ellie Grossman in the first round of the Red Singles consolation bracket at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.
In the Red Doubles flight, Estlander teamed with Chui to beat San Francisco’s Marina Nikolic and Sofia Holmberg in the opening round of 16, 8-2. But the Bears fell to Fresno State’s Agrawal and Claire Yang in the quarterfinals, 8-5.
The Gaels’ invitational ends on Sunday.
