SAN FRANCISCO – Head coach Steve Alford and sophomore Kyle Anderson represented the UCLA men’s basketball program at the Pac-12 Conference’s annual media day on Thursday, hosted at Pac-12 Network studios in San Francisco.

Alford and Anderson participated in a variety of interviews with members of the broadcast and print media, in addition to taping spots in promotional videos for Pac-12 Networks and the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas.

“Kyle and I are excited to be here, representing UCLA,” Alford said. “We have had 14 practices and we’re healthy to this point, other than Wanaah Bail who just got eligible. Having him will really help our depth. We have gotten through this segment of the season that’s new to all of us. Usually the practice start date is tomorrow.”

UCLA was selected second in the conference’s preseason media poll. Arizona was picked to finish first, Colorado was chosen third, while Oregon, California and Stanford were tabbed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Arizona State, Washington, Utah, Oregon State, USC and Washington State rounded out the poll.

In addition, the Bruins have been ranked No. 23, nationally, in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll. UCLA is one of three Pac-12 programs to have been ranked in the top 25. Arizona was ranked No. 6 and Oregon was slotted No. 18.

The men’s basketball team will participate in the sixth annual Dribble for the Cure on Sunday, Oct. 20, beginning with registration at 8:30 a.m. Dribble for the Cure has become an annual event at UCLA, joining forces with basketball alumnus John Vallely, the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) and the Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA Cancer Research Program and Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

UCLA will host an open practice on Sunday, Oct. 20. Practice begins at 3:30 p.m., and doors to Pauley Pavilion will open at 2:30 p.m.

The Bruins will open their regular season against Drexel on Friday, Nov. 8. Game time is 9 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion, and that contest will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.

UCLA will host a pair of exhibition games against Cal State San Bernardino (Oct. 30) and Cal State San Marcos (Nov. 4) in Pauley Pavilion. Both of those games will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
