Max Homa Makes Cut at Second Pro Event

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Former Cal men’s golfer Max Homa has made the cut at the second professional golf event of his career at the Shriners Hospital for Children Open that completed second-round action Friday at the par-71, 7,223-yard TPC Summerlin. Homa (69-70 – 139, -3) is tied for 58th and final spot to advance to third and fourth-round action Saturday and Sunday.

Homa was one-under par on the front nine Friday with birdies on the par-four second and sixth holes, and a bogey on the par-three fifth. He had a double bogey on the par-four 11th to go to one-over for the day but rebounded with three birdies on the next five holes on the par-four 12th, par-three 14th and par-four 16th. He gave one stroke back with a bogey on the par-three 17th but made par on the par-four 18th to make the cut by a single stroke.

Homa tied for ninth place in his professional debut at the PGA TOUR’s season-opening Frys.com Open that concluded last Sunday.

Two other former Golden Bears – Charlie Wi (68-75 – 143, +1) and James Hahn (72-71 – 143, +1) – also played in the first two rounds of the event but did not make the cut.

Webb Simpson (64-63 – 127, -15) has a four-stroke lead heading into Saturday’s third-round action.

Third and fourth-round action Saturday and Sunday will be televised by the Golf Channel each day from 2-5 p.m. PT, while an audio broadcast of the action will be available on SiriusXM from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. PT.
