Dawgs To Compete At Stanford Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif. -- No. 5 Washington women’s golf returns to action this weekend to compete in the Stanford Intercollegiate, hosted by Condoleezza Rice. The Dawgs will compete on the par-71 Stanford Golf Course with 15 teams from across the nation beginning Friday, Oct. 25.

The Huskies are set to compete against host No.3 Stanford, defending tournament champions No. 2 USC, as well as No. 1 UCLA, No. 8 Pepperdine, No. 12 Vanderbilt, No. 18 Kentucky, No. 23 Northwestern, No. 24 Auburn, No. 25 California, No. 30 Oregon, No. 36 Georgia, No. 42 UC Davis, San Jose State, Oregon State and Washington State.

Washington’s lineup for the week is SooBin Kim, Ying Luo, Charlotte Thomas, Jennifer Yang and Cyd Okino. This is the same lineup that finished last season at the NCAA Regionals as well as the one that opened the year at the Topy Cup in Japan.

The Dawgs are a part of the final tee times on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m. Washington is paired with UC Davis as well individuals from UCLA, USC and the host Cardinal.

At last year’s tournament, the women’s team placed second overall as Kim tied for second. Thomas also played well tying for ninth. The Huskies were 9-over and only four strokes behind tournament champions USC.  Kim, defending tournament champion at the time, finished at 4-under, placing her second behind USC’s Kyung Kim.  Thomas was 2-over for the weekend, including a final round 69.

The Huskies are off to a strong start in 2013, beginning with a tournament win in Tanagura, Japan. The team set a course record of 24-under par 280, earning a historic 50-stroke victory. They then hosted the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee, finishing as the runner-up to Stanford.  

The Dawgs conclude their fall season November 4-5 at the Pac-12 Preview in Hawai’i.
