Getting to Know Nick Hartle

What are you looking forward to most about being a member of the team?

Being able to contribute to a program that has been more successful in recent years makes me excited.

Why did you choose UCLA?

It was the best fit for me. Loved the campus, weather, coaches, and fellow athletes.

How did your family react to your college decision?

They were happy and excited.

When did you begin competing and why?

8th grade because my parents wanted me to do a sport.

When did you realize you could compete at the Division 1 level?

Right about by the end of my junior year when I broke 1:50 in the 800 and was ranked in the top 10 in the 800 in the nation at the end of the season.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

It hasn’t happened yet.

What has been the biggest adjustment you've had to make as a college athlete?

Time management is the toughest challenge I’ve encountered because the quality of both academics and athletics has gone up.

What goals do you have for this season?

I want to continue to contribute to this team and keep on improving as both an athlete and leader for the team.

Have you decided on or what is your major and why?

I want to pursue a Business Economics major with a minor in accounting because it interests me and it’s what my father does.

Is there any other athlete, either professional or collegiate, that inspires you?

LeBron James and David Rudisha (Miami Heat and WR 800m runner) because they are the most dominant athletes in their sports, and I want to achieve that level of dominance

Aside from cross country, what is your favorite sport?

Track & Field- but other than running, I love watching and playing basketball.

Athletes have strict diet regimens, but if there is one food you cannot live without, what is it?

The occasional bag of skittles.
