UCLA’s Chavez named men’s soccer Player of the Week

Oct 29, 2013

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA forward Victor Chavez was voted the Pac-12 men’s soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 22-27, the Conference office announced today.

Chavez, a senior forward from Fontana, Calif., scored one goal and notched an assist in three matches this week as the Bruins kept pace in a tight Pac-12 race. On Monday at Washington, Chavez set up teammate Max Estrada’s goal in the 51st minute with a through ball into the box as the Bruins earned a 2-2 draw with the Huskies. Then on Sunday in a rematch against Washington, Chavez got the Bruins on the board with a goal in the 19th minute as UCLA defeated the Huskies, 2-1. Chavez is tied for the team lead in goals with six and points with 16. His 16 points also ties for third in the Conference.

The honor is Chavez’s second-career weekly accolade, with his first coming on Oct. 5, 2010. It is the second honor for a Bruin this season as teammate Leo Stolz was recognized as player of the week on Sept. 17. It also marks the 52nd all-time weekly award for UCLA, which leads the Conference.

The Bruins travel to northern California this upcoming weekend to take on Stanford and No. 1 California in two tough matchups. Both matches will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks, part of the 28 total Pac-12 men’s soccer matches broadcast this season. For the full television schedule, visit www.pac-12.com
