Anderson Seeking Second-Straight ITA Indoor Crown

Nov 5, 2013

LOS ANGELES - Reigning ITA Indoor Champion Robin Anderson looks to defend her national title this week, as four Bruin players head across the country for the 2013 USTA/ITA Women's National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 7-10, at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Anderson, who in 2012 became only the second UCLA player in history to win an ITA National Indoor singles title following Jane Chi in 1995, is seeded No. 2 in the 32-player singles draw. She opens up the event against Georgia State's Abigail Tere-Apisah on Thursday. Chanelle Van Nguyen, who earned a spot in the tournament by winning the USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals in October, will meet Virginia's Danielle Collins in the first round. Freshman Jennifer Brady takes on third-seeded Beatrice Capra of Duke.

In doubles, UCLA's Brady and Catherine Harrison are the No. 1 seeded doubles team. Similar to Van Nguyen, the Bruin duo claimed the title at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals. Brady and Harrison have a bye in the first round and will take on Auburn's Jackie Kasler and Jennifer Pfeifler in the round of 16.
