Ogwumike, Rowe voted Pac-12 players of the week again

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Nov. 11-17. STANFORD’s Chiney Ogwumike was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and OREGON’s Chrishae Rowe was tabbed the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. Both earn their respective honor for the second-straight week.

Senior forward Chiney Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas) posted career-high numbers in home wins against Cal Poly and UC Davis last week. Ogwumike opened the weekend netting a career-high 36 points on 15-for-19 shooting, while grabbing 11 rebounds in Friday’s 86-51 win over Cal Poly. She followed up with 28 points and 15 boards in Sunday’s 66-48 win against UC Davis. She shot 68.3 percent (28-for-41) for the weekend, averaging 32.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per game. She also has four double-doubles in as many games so far this season.

Freshman guard Chrishae Rowe (Carson, Calif.) averaged a team-high 25 points per game as the Ducks defeated Portland and lost to Sacramento State in a pair of home contests last week. She nearly averaged a double-double, pulling down 19 total rebounds, the third most on the team over the last two games. Chrishae had a double-double in the 97-85 setback to Sacramento State, posting 28 points and 14 rebounds, both highs in her short career, after tallying 22 points and five rebounds in the 113-86 win over UP.

It is Ogwumike’s 11th-career player of the week honor and Stanford’s 92nd all-time. She broke the all-time career record last week when she picked up her 10th-career honor. It is Oregon’s fifth freshman weekly honor.

A player of the week has been selected every week since 1986-87, the first year the Conference sponsored women’s sports. A freshman of the week was first selected in 2012-13.

The Cardinal and Ducks each have just one game scheduled for this week. Oregon travels to face top-ranked and defending NCAA Champion Connecticut on Wednesday, Oct. 20, while Stanford heads to Austin, Texas, to face Texas on Saturday, Nov. 23.
