Pac-12 women’s volleyball scores for Saturday, Dec. 14

Dec 15, 2013

Season Ends in Lexington

It was a matchup worthy of the program’s rankings and prestige. No. 3 Stanford pushed No. 2 Penn State to five sets but was unable to finish the Nittany Lions off in the NCAA tournament regional finals, falling 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 26-28, 25-18, 11-15) on Saturday. The Cardinal (27-6) finished the match with a higher hitting percentage, .221, powered by 17 kills a piece from Rachel Williams and Jordan Burgess, but in the end Penn State’s defense prevailed in Lexington, Ky.

Huskies Come Back And Coming Home For Final Four

On Saturday, in the NCAA tournament regional finals, the third time was not the charm for the USC women’s volleyball team. Third-seeded Washington had defeated the sixth-seeded Women of Troy twice during the regular season, and on USC’s home court, the Huskies made it a trifecta with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory (26-28, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 17-15). Washington (30-2), which fell into a hole early after losing the first two sets, rebounded to win the match and advance to its first Final Four since 2006.
