Beavers Return to Action With Two Meets in Arizona

Jan 2, 2014

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State swimming team will return to action this week, as it heads to Arizona for a pair of meets to open the second half of the 2013-14 season.

The Beavers will begin the week in Tucson, where it will take on Arizona, New Mexico State and Northern Arizona Friday at noon PT. The meet will mark Oregon State’s first TV appearance of the season, as the event will be broadcast on tape-delay by Pac-12 Networks, with the first showing coming Saturday at 5 p.m. The Beavers will then head to Tempe, for a dual meet against Arizona State on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT.

The Beavers last saw action at the Las Vegas Invitational Nov. 21-23. That meet was highlighted by standout performances from sophomore Sammy Harrison and senior Crystal Kibby, with each swimmer reaching a pair of NCAA B Standards. Harrison reached B Standards in the 500 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle, while Kibby achieved the feat in the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke.  Kibby led the Beavers with four top-10 finishes in Las Vegas, including fifth-place finishes in both the 200 breaststroke and the 100 breaststroke. Harrison tallied three top-10 finishes, led by an event win in the 1,650 freestyle and a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle. Senior Aya Fujimura placed sixth in the 200 butterfly, while sophomore Amani Amr took ninth in the 200 backstroke.  Beaver swimmers combined to set 82 season-best times at the meet.

Harrison is currently ranked 11th nationally in the 1,000 freestyle and 29th in the 1,650 freestyle, as she looks to return to the NCAA Championships in both events.
