Former Oregon State and current St. Louis Rams punter Johnny Hekker has been selected a 2013 NFL All-Pro by the Associated Press.

Hekker set an NFL record with a 44.2 net punting average. Opponents averaged just 2.6 yards per return against the Rams this season, the lowest total in the NFL. He had just four touchbacks in 78 punts and placed 19 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

Hekker, who will be participating in this month’s Pro Bowl in Honolulu, is the co-master of ceremonies for the second straight year at the Feb. 5 Signing Day Celebration (more information here) as Beaver head coach Mike Riley welcomes the new class of OSU football players. Hekker will be joined on stage by current Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Matt Moore.

Hekker was a four-year letterman punter at OSU and was the Special Team’s MVP in the 2008 Sun Bowl in the Beavers 3-0 win over Pittsburgh on a windy day in El Paso, Texas.

Hekker signed as a free agent with the Rams following the 2011 season. He and defensive end Robert Quinn are the first Rams to be selected All-Pro First Team since 2003.

Deposits are being accepted for 2014 OSU season tickets for home games that include Portland State, San Diego State, Washington State, Arizona State, California, Utah and Oregon.
