Cal Claims No. 17 Ranking in ITA Poll

BERKELEY – California earned the No. 17 national ranking in the opening ITA team poll of the New Year, while Golden Bears Campbell Johnson and Andre Goransson garnered singles rankings from the ITA. Johnson, a senior, is ranked No. 74 and Goransson, a freshman, is No. 85.

As a team, the Bears also closed the 2012-13 season ranked No. 17. Cal is one of seven Pac-12 Conference teams ranked in the ITA poll.

In the 2013 fall semester, when he held a No. 41 ITA ranking, Johnson posted an 11-3 singles record. He ended the fall by advancing to the round of 16 at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York. Goransson compiled a 12-3 fall singles record, after reaching the semifinals of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships at Saint Mary’s.

Cal hosts its first collegiate dual match of the season on Jan. 21 at 1:30 p.m. vs. San Francisco.
