Roundup: WSU women's hoops snaps 18-year winless streak versus UW

Washington State Athletics

Washington State

The Cougars women's basketball team ended a 36-game losing streak to rival Washington with an 82-80 win on Tuesday. Washington State coach June Daugherty had a big part in the run – from 1997-2007, she coached the Huskies before joining WSU after she was let go by UW.

Askia Booker opened up about one piece of trash-talk from a Buffs fan that may have crossed the line, but was still funny. It's part of a homecourt advantage propped up by a rowdy crowd and the high altitude. Colorado's next step as a program is learning how to win on the road.

Oregon State

Oregon State's young second unit is playing with a cohesion that the starters don't have, which is sort of good, but also, for obvious reasons, bad for coach Craig Robinson.

As we say our farewell to the BCS system, there's a valid argument that says the Utah football program actually benefitted from the format even though it never got to play for a national title after a perfect season.

Arizona's Nick Johnson does so many good things that people tend to dismiss him as being good at any one particular skill. But not Sports Illustrated's Kelli Anderson, who has the Wildcats guard No. 9 on her Wooden Watch list.

The Golden Bears have injuries, but the reaction by the new rotation players has been impressive. Jeff Powers, Christian Behrens and freshman point guard Sam Singer are three who have stepped up for coach Mike Montgomery.

Give Jim Mora a B+ for his second season of work leading the Bruins. Beating USC (again) and making a second-tier bowl game not much of a contest is a pretty good season.

After helping foster a successful career for Austin Seferian-Jenkins at Washington, Steve Sarkisian won't be able to make USC's Xavier Grimble his next tight ened project. The redshirt junior is forgoing his final season of eligibility to enter the NFL draft.

A breakdown of Washington's impressive defense from this weekend against the Arizona schools shows there's promise. Then again, Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar is only calling the defense “functional.”

Arizona State

Remember, of all the great quarterbacks coming back for 2014 – talking to you, Marcus Mariota and Brett Hundley – it's ASU's Taylor Kelly who is being forgotten.

So, who's going to replace De'Anthony Thomas? Bralon Addison, Byron Marshall and Thomas Tyner took some of the load off Thomas when he was hurt this season, but there's also a newcomer on the list of possibilities.

This article isn't a report about David Shaw leaving Stanford, but its existence is what Cardinal fans must live through every single day. The latest organization experts think should try to steal away Shaw: the NFL's Detroit Lions.
