Video: Roberto Nelson rising up Oregon State's all-time scoring list
Will Roberto Nelson be remembered as one of Oregon State's best basketball players of all-time?
Surely at the local level he won't be forgotten. The 6-4 senior guard entered this season as the Beaver's 29th all-time leading scorer, moving his way into the top 10 during the Beaver's non-conference portion of their 2013-2014 schedule. Tonight, in a 81-72 victory over Stanford, Nelson posted 21 points, moving him past Mark Radford for 9th all-time.
During tonight's game, Pac-12 Networks announcer Lamar Hurd spoke about how talented Nelson is and where his place among past Beavers could be when he leaves Corvallis.
If his scoring trend continues, Nelson's got a fighter's chance at ending his career in the top five in scoring -- ahead of such notable names as A.C. Green, Brent Barry and Jared Cunningham.
But the Beavers haven't been to the NCAA Tournament since 1990, meaning Nelson has had limited opportinites to showcase his skills on a national level his entire career.
Still, it should be no secret how talented Nelson is and his importance to the success of Craig Robinson's team. If the Beavers exceed expectations this season (they are currently 9-6) and flirt with a tournament bid, it would be a great send off for the humble man from Santa Barbara.
