Roundup: Aaron Gordon is USA Basketball's male athlete of the year

Congrats to Arizona’s Aaron Gordon for being named USA Basketball’s male athlete of the year. Others who have won that award? LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Michael Jordan. That's some good company you’re keepin’ there, young fella.

Washington State takes its act on the road to Maples Pavilion tonight for a battle against Stanford on the Pac-12 Networks at 7 p.m. PT, but unfortunately leading scorer DaVonte Lacy won’t return any time soon, as his rib injury is likely to keep him out until February.

Washington takes on Cal in Berkeley at 8 p.m. PT on ESPNU in the other Pac-12 men’s hoops game tonight, and a change in defensive style has led to a turnaround for Washington, according to Percy Allen. Romar has made it tougher for opposing teams to drive to the rack by packing it in.

And for the Cal side of things, here’s a nice article from John Crumpacker on Jordan Mathews showing promise. The frosh scored 32 in the win over Oregon but put up just two in the Oregon State game.

Stanford lost two more players to the NFL draft yesterday after Ed Reynolds (free safety) and Cameron Fleming (offensive tackle) announced their intentions to go pro.
