Klyce Places in Top 50

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Freshman Eliza Klyce finished in 41st place of the Diviision I Women’s Foil competition on Monday at the January North American Cup in Virginia Beach, Va.

Competing unattached from Stanford, Klyce fell in the round of 64, 15-9, to Samantha Viqueira out of New Jersey. In her previous match, Klyce defeated Auset Muhammad from Illinois by a 15-11 count to advance.

Klyce opened the day fencing out of pool #3. She won four of her six bouts in pool play to qualify for the bracket play. Her wins came against Miranda Litzinger, Kaitlyn Guo, Karen Shim and Joanne Carminucci.

The January North American Cup was the first national event for USA Fencing in 2014. Klyce is next scheduled to compete on the national stage at the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships which will take place February 14-17 in Portland, Ore.
