BERKELEY – After playing one match in each of the first two weeks of the season, the No. 4 Cal women’s water polo team will have a busy weekend at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational. The Bears will play four matches in less than 24 hours, including two tilts against ranked teams. It will mark the second weekend in a three-week stretch in which Cal plays in tournaments away from Spieker Aquatics Complex.

Bears Vs. UC Santa Barbara Invitational Field
Cal has never played Concordia in program history. The Bears are 2-0 all-time against Fresno Pacific, having last played the Sunbirds in 2009. Cal is 13-7 all-time against Long Beach State, having last faced the 49ers in 2008. Cal has won the past two matches between the two teams. The Bears are 28-1 all-time against UC Santa Barbara. The teams last met in 2012.

Antal Enters Record Books
Cal freshman Dora Antal tied the third-highest single-game total in program history Saturday when she scored six during a 14-9 victory over No. 18 UC Davis at the UC Davis Tournament. It marked just the eighth time a Cal player has scored at least six goals in a single match.  Colette Glinkowski holds the school record with an eight-goal performance in 1997. Antal, who played on Hungary’s Olympic team in 2012, now has nine goals in two games this season. She was the MPSF/KAP 7 Newcomer of the Week last week.

Last Time Out
Freshman Dora Antal scored six goals and the Bears opened up a comfortable lead in the fourth period en route to a 14-9 victory over No. 18 UC Davis at the UC Davis Tourmament on Saturday.  Antal’s goal total tied for the third-most in a game in Cal history. Junior Michelle Caron and sophomore Pippa Saunders each added two goals for the Bears while freshman goalie Madeline Trabucco made seven saves.

Freshman Class Has Olympic Flavor
Cal’s freshman class includes two student-athletes who participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Roser Tarrago won a Silver Medal while playing for her native Spain while Dora Antal helped Hungary advance to the Bronze Medal match.

Bears Represent U.S. At World University Games
The Bears spent 16 days in Kazan, Russia last summer representing the United States at the World University Games. Cal was picked by USA Water Polo to be Team USA’s entry into the event, marking the first time a singluar college team was sent to compete at the competition rather than a squad of all-stars. The team was made up of 13 of Cal’s players, who played six matches and a number of other scrimmages.
