No. 23 Gym Devils Face Cal in First-Ever Beauty and the Beast Meet

TEMPE, Ariz.—The 23rd-ranked Arizona State gymnastics team (4-1, 1-0 Pac-12) will join the Arizona State wrestling team, Friday, to host Sun Devil Athletics’ first-ever Beauty and the Beast meet. The Gym Devils will compete against No. 25 Cal, while wrestling takes on Boise State side-by-side in Wells Fargo Arena at 5 p.m. MT.

The Sun Devils gymnasts are coming off a huge road victory at Washington, recording a score of 195.900 in Seattle. ASU’s quad-meet win at UW marked the highest team score on the road for the Gym Devils since Mar. 3, 2006, where the Sun Devils defeated Cal in Berkeley, 196.25-191.85.

The Golden Bears (3-3, 0-2 Pac-12) are coming off an impressive performance, where the team recorded its highest opening score in program history in a 196.875-196.275 loss to Utah in Berkeley. Cal also posted its first score of 49.00 or better on beam since 2008. The Pac-12 Conference has a nation leading eight teams ranked in the top-25.

Fans attending the meet are encouraged to blackout Wells Fargo Arena. People who wear black to the meet will receive $3 discounted admission at the door. The gymnastics portion of the meet will be broadcast live through the pac-12.com.
